Anti social behavior in Cashel was raised at the recent meeting
Anti-social behavior at Waller’s Lot near the motorway turnoff in Cashel is something that needs to be dealt with immediately, the recent Tipperary/Cahir/Cashel Municipal District meeting heard.
In recent times the area has been subject to a number of incidents from rock throwing at cars to local staff not being able to carry out their duties at work due to anti-social behavior in the area.
Incidents were reported to have occurred during daylight as well as at night time. In response to the District Administrator’s report Councillor Declan Burgess raised the matter at the recent meeting and says the issue needs to be addressed.
At present the anti-social behavior is causing problems for locals and visitors to the town, so Cllr Burgess felt it is time to address the issue now and ensure the problem doesn’t escalate and develop.
He said at the meeting that it was time to start working on solutions: “I would plead with the council maybe to look at a CCTV scheme in that area,” he said. He also added that it was something the council could work on alongside An Garda Síochána.
This joined up approach would improve the conditions for those working in the vicinity and visiting the area in question he said. Cllr Burgess felt the safety of the people who use the area is paramount for all concerned: “We have no scheme at the moment.
“I think we should look at it in terms of our RDF as at the end of the year the applications are opening there,” said Cllr Burgess speaking in relation to the installation of the cameras in the Wallers Lot area.
Council representative Anthony Coleman considered the matter at the meeting. He said that: “Circle K is all in private property and the funding mechanism will be looked at.” He added that it is something the council “will follow up”. He also said that he felt it is an anti-social behavior issue and that the gardaí needed to deal with it.
