Tipperary mining group to celebrate 160th anniversary of building of copper steeple

The copper steeple located near Ballingarry which was built 160 years ago this year.

The Slieveardagh Mining Group are celebrating the 160th anniversary of the building of the Copper Steeple.

Imagine it was only 15 years after the War House and I presume the miners who took part in the rebellion were mining the coal in the area at that time also.

The Slieveardagh Mining Group are hoping to erect a plaque to the miners and two notice boards at the Steeple highlighting the mining history in the area.

It is important that we remember our great mining history in Slieveardagh.
