Iceland store in south Tipperary shopping centre has closed its doors

The shutters were pulled down on the Iceland store at The Showgrounds Shopping Centre in Clonmel today

The Iceland store at The Showgrounds shopping centre in Clonmel is one of several across Ireland that closed their doors today, with staff reported to be “temporarily laid off”.

The supermarket chain sold all of its 27 stores in the Republic of Ireland in February, and they are now owned and operated by Metron Stores Limited.

On Tuesday, the High Court agreed to appoint an interim examiner to the company that operates the chain of retail stores in Ireland, which has said it is insolvent and unable to pay debts of €36 million.

Other stores affected by the closure included Talbot Street and Northside Retail Park in Dublin.
