The late Abe Kennedy in whose memory the Devil's Bit Walk was organised
On Saturday, April 8, 2023 Canice Sheeran along with members of the Kavanagh family and friends climbed the Devils Bit for the Irish Heart Foundation in memory of his brother in-law, the late Abe Kavanagh. Abe passed away following a sudden heart attack on Christmas Day 2021.
Abe was one of life’s gentlemen and this climb was done as a tribute to the great character Abe was and also to raise an awareness of the Irish Heart Foundation in the battle against heart disease and stroke. Saturday, April 8 was chosen for the climb, as its Abe’s birthday.
€3,000 was set as the initial target but the family were overwhelmed by the generosity of everyone and on Friday night, June 23 a cheque for €6,600 was presented to the Irish Heart Foundation. Present on the night to accept the cheque were Kerry Ann Nolan, Irish Heart Foundation and JP Maloney, Cardiac Responder.
Sincere thanks to everyone who contributed to this cause and continue to contribute. Donations are still coming in and the total amount collected to date now stands at €7,000. Thanks also to all who took part in the climb and to everyone who attended the presentation in Kellys Bar. A great night was had by all who attended.
A big thank you to James and Ciara Kelly who hosted the presentation and provided food and refreshments, also to ballad group Cruíscín who entertained all present. Abe would have been very proud.
