Tipperary GAA club makes move towards a more carbon neutral footprint

GAA Club makes move towards a more carbon neutral footprint with solar energy

The solar panels installed at the Knockshegowna GAA Club.

KNOCKSHEGOWNA GAA facility at Ballingarry, Roscrea has taken a move towards a more carbon neutral footprint with the installation of 16 photovoltaic (PV) electric generating solar panels capable of generating 6kw of electricity.

The objective of the project is to reduce the demand on the national grid and reduce the running costs of the facility while at the same time reducing the club's carbon footprint.

The system is also supported with a 5kw battery which will mean that stored electricity can be used to power the lights to the walking/running track at night.

Social membership is open, which includes the use of the walking track all year round with the track being illuminated during the winter months. Please contact any member of the committee or email secretary.knockshegowna.tipperary@gaa.ie

The club is grateful for the assistance of the North Tipperary Development Company and the LEADER programme who provided substantial funding for the project and without their assistance the project would not have been viable.
