The facade of the former Parkes chemist and opticians in Gladstone Street, Clonmel
Ongoing discussions have been taking place about the various options available for the site of the former Parkes chemist in Gladstone Street, Clonmel, District Manager Sinead Carr has stated.
She told a meeting of Clonmel Borough District that the hoarding was being maintained at the front of the shop front to manage the site.
District Administrator Carol Creighton said that the hoarding would remain to protect the redevelopment of the shop front.
She said the council was waiting to see if funding could be secured for the site.
Cllr Michael Murphy said that a job had been done on the fantastic shop front and he presumed the hoarding would remain until they had a long-term plan.
The former chemist and opticians closed many years ago.
The National Inventory of Architectural Heritage, run by the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, has documented the building as “a notable feature on the streetscape” in Clonmel.
It noted that “the well-crafted and designed shopfront is an unusual feature in a town whose shopfronts are largely recent and, along with the cast iron railings, adds considerable artistic interest to the site”.
