New playground in Tipperary is 'being used as public toilet'

Anti-social behaviour is condemned

New playground in Tipperary is 'being used as public toilet'

The Clonmel Sports Hub was opened in June

The slide/climbing tower at the new Sports Hub in Clonmel is being used as a public toilet, it has been claimed.

A woman living in the town says that people are defecating and urinating on the tower and slide.

The woman said she had seen urine and faeces on the equipment when she brought her two children, aged 4 and 9, to the playgound at the sports hub at 10.30 in the morning.

Another child was crying when she reached the top of the tower because she said “there’s poo up here”.

Her mother went up and brought the child down.

The woman said there was a puddle of urine at the bottom of the slide.

She said she had brought the incident to the attention of the caretaker.

She had spoken to other parents who said they had seen this on other occasions.

The woman said the ongoing anti-social behaviour has escalated to become a serious health and safety risk for the children who visit the park.

“This is disgusting and unacceptable and needs to be addressed urgently, as it poses a serious health risk to our children,” she stated.

She wants other parents to be aware of this when bringing their children to the playground.

The woman, who doesn’t wish to be named, said she hadn’t returned to the playground and instead had brought her children to another park in the area.

The €5.5 million Sports Hub was opened by Taoiseach Leo Varadkar in June.
