St Brigid's Hospital in Carrick-on-Suir
The Oireachtas Joint Committee on Public Petitions and the Ombudsman will meet representatives of the HSE this afternoon (Thursday, October 5) to resume discussions on the public petition calling for the reopening of Carrick-on-Suir's St Brigid's Hospital.
The Save St Brigid's Hospital petition signed by more than 11,000 people from Carrick-on-Suir and surrounding communities will be discussed along with two other petitions regarding the closure of Seven Springs Day Centre in Loughrea, county Galway and the Owenacurra Centre in Midleton in county Cork.
The meeting in Leinster House will commence at 1.30pm.
Joint Public Petitions Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Martin Browne said: “The Committee has previously discussed petitions regarding saving vital health services at Owenacurra in Midleton, county Cork, St Brigid’s in Carrick-on-Suir, county Tipperary and Seven Springs Day Care Centre in Loughrea Co Galway, and heard detailed submissions from all the petitioners.
“Members now look forward to hearing the response of the HSE and the senior executives in three regions regarding the closure of these important services which were so valued by people in east Galway, east Cork and south Tipperary.
“We are particularly interested in hearing from the HSE how they propose to provide these services in the future,” added the Sinn Féin TD from Cashel.
