Good news for Rosegreen

Weekly bin collection for tidy towns group in Tipperary village will return

The work of the tidy towns group in Rosegreen in keeping the village clean has been praised

A weekly bin collection for the tidy towns group in the village of Rosegreen will be restored, District Manager Sinead Carr stated at a meeting of Clonmel Borough District.

Cllr Michael Murphy believed it said a lot about the state of local government that the council couldn’t provide a bin service for Rosegreen Tidy Towns.

He said the group did fantastic work but people were deeply frustrated that they were being told to dispose of the rubbish themselves.

The waste collection service had been previously supplied by both the Carrick-on-Suir and Cashel-Tipperary Districts and Cllr Murphy requested that it be reinstated.

Cllr John FitzGerald said they had a standout tidy towns group in Rosegreen and you wouldn’t see two people but ten people working with them.

He had accompanied members of the group to the dump in Cashel and he eventually persuaded the staff to accept the rubbish they had brought with them.

Cllr Siobhán Ambrose agreed that there was a very active tidy towns group in the village. She felt sorry for Rosegreen because it was caught between two stools, with half of the village in the Clonmel district and the other half in the Cashel district.

She thought they might engage with Cashel Tidy Towns and find out when its rubbish was collected.

District Engineer Nicola Keating also acknowledged the work of Rosegreen Tidy Towns and said the suggestions made would be explored.
