The delay in setting up a CCTV system in Clonmel has been compared to the Taj Mahal in India
You would “have the Taj Mahal built” by the time that the CCTV scheme in Clonmel was set up, such were the lengthy delays in the project, Cllr Siobhán Ambrose stated at a meeting of Clonmel Borough District.
She said they were only requesting CCTV for three locations around the town and it wasn’t like they were asking for a scheme for all of Dublin city.
She suggested that the council would again write to the Garda Commissioner about this.
The issue was raised by Cllr Pat English, who said he was very disappointed with the lack of a response from the Garda Commissioner to their requests for an update.
CCTV was badly needed throughout the town. A lot of work had gone into getting this across the line, all the blocks were in place and it should be done in the short term rather than the long term.
Cllr English said the council should keep the pressure on the Garda Commissioner’s office.
District Administrator Carol Creighton said the council had been asked for updated garda vetting. They could only hope the scheme was being analysed with a fine tooth comb and that they should hear something soon.
She said that the Garda Superintendent considered it a positive move that they were also being questioned about the Clonmel scheme and other schemes in the county.
She imagined that all the Tipperary schemes would be completed at the same time.
