Tidy Towns groups from Carrick-on-Suir Municipal District were honoured at a reception where they received financial awards for their tireless work keeping their communities spick-and- span over the past year.

The reception at the district offices at Carrick-on-Suir Town Hall on Thursday, November 23 was hosted by Carrick MD Cathaoirleach Cllr Kieran Bourke and his fellow councillors from the district.

Cllr Bourke welcomed the representatives of the Tidy Towns groups to the function to celebrate their fantastic achievements in the 2023 Super Valu National Tidy Towns competition.

He said the results provided a welcome opportunity for Carrick Municipal District to reward those volunteers engaged in enhancing their hometowns and villages through thick and thin and in all weathers.

Cllr Bourke presented certificates to accompany the financial award to representatives of ten of the Tidy Towns groups who were able to attend the function.
The largest award of €2,000 was presented to Moyglass Tidy Towns Group for its success in increasing the village’s score in the National Tidy Towns competition by an incredible 21 marks over the previous year.

Faugheen Tidy Towns received the next highest award of €1,500 in recognition of the 13 mark increase in its National Tidy Town competition results compared to 2022.

Following close behind was Grangemockler Tidy Towns, which received a €1,300 award for the 11 point increase in the village’s performance in the national competition.

Ballingarry, Fethard and Mullinahone Tidy Towns groups each increased their National Tidy Towns contest results by 10 points - an achievement that earned them a €1,200 award from Carrick MD.

Ahenny/Clashnasmut, Killenaule, Drangan, Cloneen, Ballynonty, The Commons and Ballyneale Tidy Towns groups also improved their performances in the national competition for which they have earned €1,000 awards from the council.

Cllr Bourke paid tribute to all of the attendees whom he considered to be winners. He praised their commitment, dedication and enthusiasm in striving to improve their home environment and aesthetic.
