The much-anticipated vote for the new Vice-Chairman of the Tipperary GAA County Board came unstuck at last Saturday night’s County Convention after a clerical error with voting cards forced the vote to be struck off on the night.
Both candidates for this position are from the North Division, current County Planning and Training Officer Mark McLoughlin of Roscrea, along with Michael Tierney Borris-Ileigh who is the outgoing North Board Chairman contesting the vote, with a close contest expected in the lead-up to the convention.
However, despite taking the votes of the 213 delegates present in the Dome it was discovered during the count that 218 votes had been handed in which meant that the vote was void, and due to several delegates leaving directly after handing in their votes, a re-vote could not be done thereafter.
As a result of this poor oversight, the vote will now need to be conducted at a later that, with outgoing Chairman Joe Kennedy suggesting that a postal vote be done to decide the contest. This is expected to be concluded in early January.
