Tipperary County Council is seeking planning permission to carry out extensive remediation works to clear the former Goldcrop site on Carrick-on-Suir’s North Quay of its derelict buildings and structures.
The public have until January 22 to voice their views on the council’s proposals to demolish and remove the eight derelict buildings on the site, remove the boundary walls facing onto the Quay and remove the weighbridge located within the site.
If the council secures planning permission, it will apply to the Department of Rural & Community Development for Rural Regeneration Development Funding to carry out the clearance of the 2.7 acres site.
The council estimates it will cost more than €1.5m to clean up the property next to Dillon Bridge. It is one of the town’s long-standing derelict sites.
The council purchased the extensive quayside property, also known as the Wicklow Gardens site, a year ago and plans to draw up a masterplan for its redevelopment for tourism, cultural, recreational, commercial and retail use.
The local authority has applied for planning permission for the remediation project under Section 8 of the Planning & Development Regulations.
The planning application and associated documents went on public display at Carrick Municipal District’s offices at Carrick Town Hall, Tipperary County Council’s Civic Offices in Clonmel and the Seán Healy Public Library in Carrick-on-Suir on November 30.
They will remain on public display at these locations until next Tuesday, January 2.
The plans can also be viewed on Tipperary County Council’s website: www.tipperarycoco.ie
Members of the public have until 4.30pm on Monday, January 22 to send written submissions or observations on the plans to the council.
Submissions can be sent in writing to the District Administrator of Carrick-on-Suir Municipal District at Carrick MD’s Offices at New Street, Carrick-on-Suir. They can also be sent via email to: carrickonsuirmdpart8 @tipperarycoco.ie
If the Part 8 planning application is approved, the council will apply for RRDF funding for the project in February.
