Public meeting to be held on Tipperary bypass project

Public meeting to be held on Tipperary bypass project

Thurles town

A public meeting on the on the inclusion of the proposed Thurles bypass on the National Development Plan is to take place in Thurles.

The meeting will be held in Hayes Hayes’ Hotel on Thursday, January 11, at 8pm.

The meeting is being organised by Sinn Féin Local election candidate Dan Harty as a result of a recent indication from Transport Infrastructure Ireland that a mid-term review of the NDP is due to be held in 2025.

Mr Harty said put the spotlight back on the project.

“With both local and general elections looming, now is perfect opportunity to put pressure on the current government to deliver for Thurles and have this project included in the plan.

“For too long Thurles has been left behind by successive governments, and this can no longer be accepted.

“I am calling on all public representatives, business owners, the general public and any other interested parties to attend this meeting.

“The aim of the meeting is to give the public updated information on the status of the project and to organise an effective campaign to have this vital piece of infrastructure included on the National Development Plan”.

“For too long, a fractured approach by various political interests in Thurles has led to a weak approach to secure this vital and lifesaving piece of infrastructure for the town.

“I am calling this meeting so that Thurles can produce a focused and concentrated campaign ahead of the NDP review in 2025 and bring together all of our political resources and representatives to deliver for the people of Thurles.”

“Looking at similar campaigns in other parts of the country which have yielded success.

“ I can see that a meeting of this nature is far overdue if we want to launch a successful structured campaign.

“Public support for this project will be vital for the success of this campaign, and I would encourage people to attend the meeting itself and future campaign events and initiatives,” Mr Harty.
