ROSCREA is home to several families from Ukraine who fled to Ireland from Russia's continuing war in their homeland and they celebrated their first Irish Christmas at a very poignant and heartwarming gathering in the former Sacred Heart Convent accommodation centre.
On Thursday, December 21st, to express gratitude to the local community for their unwavering support, the Ukrainian people sang Christmas carols and exchanged gifts with people from Roscrea and the local Community Choir.
The event marked the first Christmas celebration for the approximately 150 residents, predominantly comprised of women and children, with 50 children below the age of 17 currently in Roscrea.
The festive evening commenced with the melodious performances of the Roscrea Community Choir, who enchanted the audience with traditional Christmas favourites. Following their performance, the residents took the stage, sharing their own traditional carols and spreading the joy of the season.

The event saw a strong turnout from the local community, including representatives from businesses that have generously supported the residents, as well as members of the NTDC, local schools, and the HSE. The gathering provided an opportunity for residents to express their gratitude to the people of Roscrea for the overwhelming support received since their arrival.
