Gardaí have urged home owners, farmers and business people to step up security on their oil tanks and vehicles in the wake of a spate of diesel thefts in west Tipperary.
An estimated 200 Litres of agricultural diesel was stolen from a tank at a quarry in the Cappawhite area sometime between last Friday, January 12 and Monday morning this week.
Diesel worth about €50 was also stolen from a tractor parked in a farm yard in the Bishop’s Wood area near Dundrum between 3am and 9am on Tuesday, January 9.
And diesel valued at €120 was stolen from a JCB parked in a field at Cloughready, Emly sometime between January 1 and Monday, January 15.
Gardaí at Tipperary Town Garda Station are investigating the spate of thefts. A Garda spokesman appealed to the public to be extra vigilant with security in relation to fuel tanks and vehicle as the cold weather seems to have prompted an increase in this type of crime.
He urged anyone with information that may assist their investigations into the diesel thefts in Cappawhite, Bishop’s Wood and Emly areas to contact Tipperary Garda Station at (062) 80670.
