Community groups and enterprises in two Tipperary districts can apply for Just Transition grants

The EU Just Transition Fund

Community and voluntary organisations and enterprises in Carrick-on-Suir and its wider municipal district are being encouraged to apply for Just Transition Community Fund grants

Carrick-on-Suir Municipal District’s Director of Services Brian Beck is urging these groups within the district that stretches from Carrick-on-Suir to Ballinure near Thurles, to look into applying for these grants.

The deadline for submitting applications is February 22.

He said the Just Transition Fund grants range in size from €50,000 and €300,000 and offer a great opportunity for community and voluntary groups, social enterprises and small and medium enterprises with projects they are planning.

Mr Beck told Carrick MD’s January meeting there is €5m funding available under the Just Transition Fund, which is only open to groups in eight counties.

He pointed out that in county Tipperary, the Just Transition Fund was only available to community groups and enterprises in Carrick-on-Suir and Thurles Municipal Districts.

The aim of the Just Transition Fund is to address the long-term economic transition of regions following the end of commercial peat harvesting by Bord na Mona and end of peat fired power generation.

Information on how to apply for the grants is available from the Eastern & Midlands Regional Assembly website and Pobal website.
