Former Fianna Fáil member of South Tipperary County Council passes away

Michael Kennedy, a former member of South Tipperary County Council who was originally from Clonmel, passed away recently.

Mr Kennedy, formerly of Ard na Greine and The Spa, Clonmel, died unexpectedly at his home in Tramore, Co Waterford on March 21.

He was co-opted as a Fianna Fáil member of South Tipperary County Council in 1987 following the death of former Clonmel Mayor Brendan Cronin, and served until the Local Elections in 1991.

Mr Kennedy operated a successful printing firm at The Borstal, Clonmel with his late father John, who was also prominent in local political circles and a former Mayor of the town.

Tributes were paid to Mr Kennedy at a special meeting of Clonmel Borough District held at the Town Hall, Clonmel. He was buried at St Patrick’s Cemetery following Requiem Mass at St Mary’s Church, Irishtown.

He was predeceased by his parents John and Eily and is survived by his sister Maura (Hale), brother-in-law John (Hale), nephew David, niece Aisling, extended family and friends, to whom sincere sympathy is extended.
