The Tipperary Ladies Football team of 1974, the first-ever winners of the All-Ireland senior competition, were honoured at Bansha on Sunday last before and after the Munster Senior Championship clash between Tipperary and Waterford.

Each member of the 1974 team were presented with a replica jersey especially commissioned for the day. Then, after Tipperary had secured a win over Waterford in the big game, the ‘Golden Girls,’ who are this year celebrating the 50th anniversary of their historic win over Offaly, joined the present day team for a meal in Bansha Community Hall.

The team of 1974 were looked after superbly by the local committee and sincerely appreciated the special attention. All then joined in proud rendition of ‘Sliabh na mBan,’ in what was a touching and emotional few minutes for one and all.

Another day that won’t be forgotten. Tiobraid Arann Abú
