Niall Dennehy with his family following his re-election to Tipperary County Council
“My contract with the people for the last five years was to support Clonmel and south Tipperary, as distinct to Nenagh, and that remains the battle”.
That was the reaction of Non Party Councillor Niall Dennehy after he took the sixth and last seat in the Clonmel Local Electoral Area on the tenth and final count in Thurles at the Local Elections.
He says the first function that is the most critical for the incoming county council would be the appointment of the new council CEO.
“I believe if we do not get a CEO who is friendly to Clonmel and south Tipperary, we will have to seek full city council status like Galway has, so that we would be totally independent from the rest of the county”.
Cllr Dennehy says that the council’s finance section and planning section also need to be repatriated back to Clonmel.
Cllr Dennehy says that he is delighted to have been re-elected.
“I do not top polls but I always secure enough number ones to keep me in the race.
“In more than 30 years of contesting local elections, I have always been transfer-friendly”.
