Cllr John FitzGerald called for action to be taken to rectify the sewage problem in Clerihan
Sewage had come bubbling up on the road and formed a stream at the Church View estate in Clerihan during a recent spell of hot weather, Cllr John FitzGerald told a meeting of Clonmel Borough District.
This public health problem had been rectified for the time being but it wasn’t something that “we could sit on our hands” about and the residents were at their wits’ ends, he stated.
Cllr FitzGerald welcomed the fact that work was continuing for the taking in charge of the Knockeevan and Church View estates in Clerihan.
A survey had indicated that the issues with roads and footpaths in the estates weren’t all that onerous and the developer is willing to work on these.
There was an urgency about Church View, which he said was “ripe” for taking in charge, and he urged that it would be taken in charge sooner rather than later.
Cllr Pat English agreed that the sewage problems at Church View was a big issue. For eight or nine years the residents in that area had also been in darkness because of a lack of street lights.
People had paid big money for those houses and it was a shame they were in total darkness at night, especially during the winter.
The sooner the estates were taken in charge the better.
Cllr Siobhán Ambrose acknowledged that there were huge difficulties associated with the taking in charge of estates.
She was delighted to hear that council officials were meeting with the bond holders in relation to Knockeevan the following week, and she welcomed the ongoing discussions and negotiations about Church View.
Kieran Ladden, Senior Executive Engineer with Tipperary Council, had stated that the council was working to resolve issues in relation to the Church View and Knockeevan estates in Clerihan that would enable the council to take them in charge.
