Funding secured for new public basketball court for Carrick-on-Suir park

A new 3X3 basketball court is proposed for Sean Healy Park, Clonmel

Tipperary County Council has secured funding to develop a public basketball court at Carrick-on-Suir's Sean Healy Park.

Carrick-on-Suir Municipal District's Director of Services Brian Beck announced the good news at the October meeting of the district’s councillors in Carrick-on-Suir Town Hall last Thursday.

He said the Council submitted an application for funding for the sports facility a number of months ago and has now secured money to develop a 3X3 basketball court at the riverside park located off Carrick-on-Suir's Clonmel Road.

The aim of the court will be to encourage children and young people to engage in outdoor sporting activity.

Carrick-on-Suir Municipal District Cathaoirleach Cllr Mark Fitzgerald welcomed the news and said the court will be another great addition to the amenity.

District Administrator Marie Cox earlier informed the meeting that Carrick-on-Suir Regeneration Scheme upgrade of Sean Healy Park was 95% complete with only the final new railing to be installed at the park's plaza area.
