Storm Darragh causes water supply outages in a number of Tipperary communities

Uisce Éireann reports a number of areas in county Tipperary are experiencing power supply issues and water outages that can include no water and/or low water pressure today (Saturday, December 7) as a result of high winds during Storm Darragh.

The following areas and surrounds are impacted.

• Ballinvir Water Supply scheme 
• Ahenny Water Supply scheme 
• Kilcash Water Supply scheme 
• Cloughjordan water supply scheme, in parts of the scheme are experiencing an outage at higher elevations in the network while other customers are experiencing lower pressure . 
• Springmount water supply scheme customers in the following areas are experiencing an outage: Springmount, parts of Golden and surrounding areas. The current estimated restoration time is 2pm. 
• Templetoughy water supply scheme 
• Upperchurch water supply scheme 
• Kilcommon water supply scheme 
• Borrisoleigh area on Thurles Regional scheme 
• Monroe on the Clonmel scheme
• Temple-Etney on the Clonmel Rural Scheme, including Killurney high areas, Ballyneale, Kilsheelan East and surrounding areas.

Uisce Éireann says it is continuing to assess the impacts of Storm Darragh on water and wastewater services across the country.

"Early reports from our operations team demonstrate the scale of the impact with water treatment plants most impacted in Kerry, East Limerick, Clare, Tipperary, Waterford, Donegal, Leitrim, County Galway and the west of Galway city.

Margaret Attridge, Head of Water Operations with Uisce Éireann said: “Due to the severity of the storm, Uisce Éireann  activated its emergency response processes, including deploying generators at key sites where power outages were likely. Uisce Éireann crews are now on the ground assessing the full impact and working to restore supply as quickly as possible. We are also working closely with the ESB to return power to key water services sites as quickly as possible.

"In the event of a loss of supply, most properties should have adequate storage in their attic tanks for hygiene purposes for at least 24 hours. There are some simple steps people can take to conserve their water, such as avoiding the use of water-intensive appliances during this time.

"Customers can check our website and social media channels for updates and to get in touch with any issues or concerns via our 24/7 customer care centre at 1800 278 278. People can also sign up online to our free text alert system to get regular updates about their local supplies - see www.water.ie.”
