At the recent monthly meeting of the Tipperary-Cahir-Cashel Municipal District, questions were raised by councillors regarding the tenant in situ scheme, and whether the council were still buying homes from landlords.
Independent Cllr John O’Heney asked the council's housing division: “My question is about the tenant in situ scheme, I have several people who have been issued notices to quit and the landlords are in a position to sell the house to the council, but they need to know where it stands. We need information on this as soon as possible, otherwise there’s going to be a lot of homeless issues coming forward because of it."
Cllr Liam Browne also spoke at the meeting about people getting notices to quit and that landlords have been coming to him saying they'd like to sell their house to the council.

Housing officials responded that the council’s priority will be on housing first, the homeless and disability as the scheme will be reduced this year.
"Tenants in situ are pretty much not going to be happening. There may be an exceptional case but we’re being very straight with landlords, telling them we’re not buying houses. I think that message needs to get out there.”
