Gardaí and a local councillor have appealed to people not to share insensitive video footage of a tragic incident in Carrick-on-Suir in which a man was found unresponsive in the town centre in the early hours of Tuesday morning and later died.
Cllr David Dunne, Cathaoirleach of Carrick-on-Suir Municipal District, condemned the filming and widespread circulation of the video footage of the incident scene in the West Gate area of the town centre as "disgusting" and urged people not to view it or share it around.
"I am urging people not to look at it or share it. There is no need to view this very insensitive footage."
The Carrick-on-Suir Sinn Féin councillor extended sympathy on behalf of the people of the town to the family of the deceased man. he believed the man has a family member living in the town.

Cllr Dunne's appeal to the public to stop sharing and viewing the video has been echoed by An Garda Síochána.
Sgt. Carol O'Leary told Tipp FM: "You've got to remember at the end of the day there is a person involved and a person who had family. If it was your own family you certainly wouldn't want that shared."
Garda investigations are ongoing into the circumstances of the death of the man, who is believed to be originally from Eastern Europe. He was found unresponsive in the West Gate area of Carrick-on-Suir at around 2.30am on Tuesday.
He was taken to University Hospital Waterford where he was later pronounced dead.
