At the centre of the competition is the James Whelehan Trophy, one of the most impressive pieces of silverware in the club. While the winner does not take the trophy home, they earn the distinction of having it displayed prominently in the club, serving as a lasting reminder of their achievement.
Alongside the trophy, the champion will receive a gold medal to keep permanently, a cash prize, and, new this year, a club baseball cap introduced in memory of James, who was rarely seen without one.
Last year’s winner, Martin Kelly, will enter the tournament as a strong favourite to defend his title, but Sunday’s competition promises the possibility of surprises. Entry is set at €10, with players required to register and pay by 7pm on Friday.
With silverware, prizes, and pride on the line, this year’s James Whelehan Memorial Snooker Competition is shaping up to be a brilliant event for players and spectators alike.
