A day of pride and community spirit unfolded in Portroe as the local GAA Club officially opened its new community walkway, a development that stands as a testament to collaboration, volunteerism and long-term local vision.

Club Chairman Tom Gallahue opened proceedings, warmly welcoming a large and supportive crowd. In his speech, he extended special thanks to LEADER for their generous support and vital funding, which helped make the development possible.
He also paid special tribute to Danny Flynn Ground Works, acknowledging their hard work, dedication, and the countless invaluable hours put into completing the walkway to such a high standard. Their efforts were instrumental in bringing the project from plan to reality.
TD Alan Kelly addressed the crowd, commending Portroe GAA for delivering a project that promotes health, well-being, and inclusivity. He praised the club’s leadership and the wider community for coming together to create a facility that will benefit generations to come.
Also speaking was John Carroll, Cathaoirleach of Tipperary County Council and a member of the Local Community Development Committee (LCDC). He congratulated the club on its initiative and vision, noting how community-driven projects like this one are at the heart of rural development.
A blessing of the walkway was led by Fr Lorcan and Fr Seamus Gardiner, who offered prayers for the safety and well-being of all who will use the new amenity.
