A planning application has been submitted to Tipperary County Council for a new bed and breakfast in Cashel town. The property in question is situated at the corner of 9 John Street and William Street.

The proposal seeks to convert the existing domestic dwelling into a bed and breakfast, with plans for nine guest bedrooms. The development would mark a modest expansion of accommodation options in the town.

The move comes at a time when County Tipperary’s profile in tourism circles is on the rise. The county has been named among the world’s top destinations to visit in 2026 by the globally respected travel guide Lonely Planet.

In its Best in Travel 2026 list, Tipperary is highlighted for its hiking opportunities, rich history and food scene, placing it alongside destinations from Botswana to Mexico City on a short list of 25 must-see places around the world.

Local tourism leaders hope the international recognition will drive more visitors to the region.

To support this effort, Tipperary’s tourism authorities have launched a refreshed county tourism website that aims to make it easier for travellers to discover what the area has to offer and to plan trips.

The updated online hub forms part of a wider tourism development roadmap intended to strengthen the county’s visitor appeal.

Council officials are expected to reach a decision on the application in early February. The proposed development could offer additional accommodation for the increasing number of visitors drawn to the county’s scenic landscapes and cultural attractions.
