The initiative is intended to rejuvenate town centres, tackling vacancy and dereliction while encouraging increased footfall and supporting local economic and social activity.

Local TD Michael Murphy described the announcement as very positive for the county and praised the work of those involved in the projects.

“Really positive news for Tipperary with more than €1 million allocated under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme,” he said. “In particular I want to welcome funding of €300,000 for Cashel for Phase 2 of the development of the Town Park.

A further €50,000 for Carrick on Suir to transform the under utilised Duck Pond area and finally €50,000 for Golden to enhance Golden Island.”

In Cashel, €300,000 has been earmarked for the second phase of the Town Park development. The project will deliver high-quality park facilities in the town centre, including an extension of the Boardwalk, new grass and gravel paths, and landscaping to the west of Bishops Walk.

Nenagh will receive €500,000 to renovate a three-storey vacant Gaol lock. The restored building will provide a visitor attraction designed to stimulate both economic and social regeneration in the Historic and Cultural Quarter, in line with Nenagh’s Town Centre First Plan.

Templemore has been allocated €112,950 to improve the Town Park, with works set to enhance local biodiversity and the visitor experience. Planned improvements include a new car park, resurfaced pathways, native hedgerow planting, and the creation of a tranquil picnic area.

Carrick on Suir will receive €50,000 to redevelop the under-used Duck Pond area into a publicly accessible, environmentally sustainable amenity. The funding will support planning and design work to prepare the site for future capital investment.

Finally, Golden will benefit from €50,000 to enhance Golden Island and adjoining properties. The project aims to create a communal focal point along the River Suir, supporting the development of the village as a sustainable rural community and providing a welcoming space for residents and visitors to relax.

The scheme is part of a broader Government effort to revive towns and villages across Ireland, addressing dereliction and creating more vibrant public spaces.
