Michael Murphy TD, representing Fine Gael in Tipperary South, has confirmed that €176.12 million has been allocated for infrastructure projects in schools across the county.
According to the deputy, the funding will support the construction and completion of essential school facilities.
Speaking about the announcement, Deputy Murphy highlighted the significance of the National Development Plan (NDP) Sectoral Plan for the Education and Youth sectors.
He said the plan will assist schools in planning ahead and managing their budgets effectively.
“I’m delighted to see funding of €176.12 million for Tipperary. This funding will help deliver a world-class education system that supports every learner to reach their full potential,” he said.
Deputy Murphy also provided an overview of ongoing projects in the county. Between 2020 and 2025, 67 new school building projects have been completed, with eight more currently under construction and a further four scheduled to start in 2026 and 2027.
“I’m particularly looking forward to seeing completed works for Scoil Ruain, Killenaule. Students, staff and the wider school community are all looking forward to seeing this progressed,” he added.
The deputy outlined the broader priorities of the education NDP, which include maximising schools’ capacity, prioritising new building projects, and supporting provisions for special educational needs.
He noted that nationwide, the plan commits €7.55 billion to schools and youth sector infrastructure over the 2026 to 2030 period.
“It’s also great to see clarity on the timeline for the annual December/January Minor Works and ICT grants to schools, something that schools have long been calling for. This will be key for school budget management,” Deputy Murphy said.
He concluded by praising the commitment of Minister Hildegarde Naughton and Fine Gael to ensuring that every child has access to a school place, that schools are equipped with world-class facilities, and that the wider organisation of schools is fully supported.
