The council said water levels on the River Suir have risen, with overtopping reported in a number of areas. Flood Protection and Maintenance Teams, working alongside the Office of Public Works, have been monitoring and managing conditions throughout the week.
According to the statement, the town’s flood defence system is performing exactly as designed and continues to safeguard Clonmel.
Operational work on the ground has included checks and maintenance of embankments, testing of flood barriers and the servicing of pumping stations.
Crews have also been inspecting non return valves and storm sewers, while clearing trash screens, fish passes, manholes and gullies to maintain drainage capacity.
River levels and rainfall forecasts are being monitored on a continuous basis. Council staff remain on standby should conditions change.
The local authority has advised the public to stay informed through its social media channels and via updates on the Tipperary County Council website.
