RIP: Tipperary community mourns the passing of  much-loved family man Sean Moynihan

The death has occurred of Sean Moynihan, who passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 25, surrounded by his loving family.

Sean died in the wonderful care of the staff at Padre Pio Nursing Home, to whom heartfelt gratitude has been expressed for their compassion and dedication.

Predeceased by his beloved wife Josephine, his parents Annie and Mick, and his brothers Noel, Michael and Martin, Sean’s passing is deeply regretted by his heartbroken family — daughter Christine; sons John, Michael and Gerard; granddaughters Kelly, Shauna and Aine; brother Paddy; sisters Marian and Eileen; son-in-law Mark Millea; daughter-in-law Jackie Cullen; sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; nieces; nephews; cousins; neighbours and a wide circle of friends.

Sean will repose at Hugh Ryan's Funeral Home on Friday, February 27, from 5pm to 7pm.

His funeral will arrive at Holycross Abbey on Saturday, February 28, at 11am for Requiem Mass at 11.30am, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Tributes paid following his passing reflect the high esteem in which he was held in the community.

One mourner wrote: “Christina, so sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. My sympathies to you & all your family at this sad time, may he rest in peace.”

Local TD Michael Lowry described Sean as “a mighty character, full of fun and wit,” adding that he “gave his knowledge and expertise freely and was always willing to help, supporting many organisations and worthy causes within our community without hesitation.”

“To me personally he was a reliable, loyal lifelong friend. He will be missed by all who knew him,” he said. “My thoughts and condolences are with his family, friends, and all those mourning his passing. May he rest in eternal peace.”

A further message of condolence was offered by Ryan O'Meara TD, who said: “Sincere sympathy to the Moynihan family on the sad passing of Sean. May his gentle soul rest in peace.”

Another tribute read: “Our sincere sympathy to Christine, John, Michael and Gerard on the sad passing of your father Sean. Also to the extended Moynihan family. We are sorry for your great loss. Sean was a lovely man and great company. Peace to his soul.”

A further message highlighted Sean’s presence in Holycross life: “My deepest sympathy to Sean's family Christina, John, Michael and Ger, his sisters Marian and Eileen and brother Paddy, his grandchildren, daughter-in-law and son-in-law and all who mourn Sean — a big loss to Holycross, the novena will never be the same. He was always ready for the banter and the colourful language but most of all he was always ready for the chat. Rest easy Sean.”
