There was widespread sadness in the Thurles area following the sudden passing of Jackie (John) Kelly, Grange Castle, on Friday, March 20.
Mr Kelly passed away unexpectedly at his residence, leaving a profound void in the lives of his family, friends, and the wider community.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife Sally, his parents John and Bridie, his brothers Jim, Kevin and Michael, and his nephew Kristian.
He is deeply mourned by his loving children Yvonne, John, Finbarr and Joanne, as well as his extended family including his son-in-law Stephen, daughter-in-law Emma, and Finbarr’s fiancée Maebh.
Jackie was a devoted grandfather to his adored grandchildren and will be fondly remembered by his sisters Nancy and Marie, brothers Eamon and Gerald, along with his brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a wide circle of friends. Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced at a later date.
Tributes paid following his passing highlight the high regard in which he was held locally. Many described him as a “true gentleman” who always took time for a chat, while others fondly recalled his sociable nature and the enjoyment he brought to community life, including well-known card games among friends.
Public representatives also extended their sympathies, including Ryan O’Meara, who offered condolences to the Kelly family and prayed for Jackie’s gentle soul, and Michael Lowry, who expressed his sympathy to Jackie’s children and extended family on their loss.
Messages of sympathy have been shared with the Kelly family from across the community.
One message read: “To John, Finbarr, Yvonne and Joanne and all of the Kelly family, our sympathy goes to you all on the passing of Jackie. May he rest in peace.”
Another tribute expressed: “Deepest sympathies to Yvonne, John, Finbarr and Joanne on the sad sudden passing of their dad Jackie.
To his brothers and sisters and extended family, my prayers and thoughts are with you. Jackie was a gentleman and always stopped to chat when I met him. May he rest in peace.”
Others remembered Jackie as a much-loved character, with one condolence noting: “Our sincere condolences to all the Kelly family on the sudden passing of Jackie, a great character and a true gentleman. The games of 25 will never be the same again. May Jackie rest in peace.”
Jackie Kelly will be remembered with great affection in his community, where his warmth, kindness and friendly presence made a lasting impression on all who knew him.
