County Tipperary is set to receive €5 million in fire service investment, as part of what is described as a record national capital programme aimed at upgrading emergency response capacity.

The allocation provides €3 million for the construction of a new fire station in Borrisokane, alongside €2 million earmarked for refurbishment works at the existing station in Roscrea. The funding forms part of a broader effort to renew infrastructure across the State’s fire services.
Separate provision has also been made for equipment. Tipperary County Council is to receive two new Class B fire appliances, each valued at approximately €500,000, under the nationwide capital funding plan.
These measures sit within the wider €328.5 million National Fire Services Capital Programme for the period 2026 to 2030.
Developed by the National Directorate for Fire and Emergency Management, the programme outlines a strategy to modernise fleet, facilities, training and communications, reflecting what officials describe as increasingly complex risks faced by communities.
James Browne said the investment ensures that the Fire Service will have a modern fleet, upgraded facilities and equipment required to meet the challenges they face, with a changing climate, a growing population and increasingly complex emergency risks.
The announcement has been welcomed locally. Ryan O’Meara said he would support Tipperary County Council in efforts to retain Newport Fire Station, which is currently experiencing recruitment difficulties.
All 12 fire stations in the county are staffed by retained firefighters, who secured improvements in 2025 following a long-running campaign for better pay and working conditions.
