Tipperary's man to raise awareness for Irish Kidney Association

Tipperary's Owen to raise awareness for the Irish Kidney Association with biker run

South Lodge's Owen Hanrahan is organising a bikers run to raise awareness for the Irish Kidney Association on Sunday, October 23.

A Tipperary man is calling on bikers to come out and help raise awareness for the Irish Kidney Association this Sunday, October 23.

South Lodge’s Owen Hanrahan will get on his motorcycle, along with over 30 others, as a gesture of gratitude for the charitable voluntary organisation which helped him through a very difficult period in his life.

At 38 years old, the father of James (3), Paul (9) and Matthew (12) and husband to Therese, was diagnosed with nephrotic syndrome, a kidney disorder that causes the body to excrete too much protein in urine.

His world came crashing down. Being diagnosed with a kidney disorder was the furthest thing from his mind, as he enjoyed family life and passionately followed the Tipperary hurlers.

Registration for the awareness ride opens at 11am at The Parade in Kilkenny on October 23, with departure at 12pm in the direction of Thomastown.  The riders will make a pit stop in Bagenalstown were lunch will be provided at a subsidised rate, before returning to Kilkenny Castle around 4pm. The route is subject to change, weather permitting.

“There will be no collection from the general public, but any donations from riders will be greatly appreciated and go to the Irish Kidney Association,” Owen adds.
