It is many a year since such a crowd piled into Dovea House, a few kilometres from Thurles, into the library and into the hall to share an evening when the heritage of the house, estate and Dovea Genetics was explored.
Over 100 attended the event to listen to exciting plans for the house and outbuildings and to view the recent marvellous restoration work on the decorative plasterwork by master craftsmen, Stapletons of Borrisoleigh.
George Cunningham presented an overview of the Trants, the estate and their library (he has just completed a full catalogue of the remaining books) and outlined plans for future historical research into all aspects of both the estate and the history of Dovea Genetics.
Architect, Brian Grubb who has been working for the past two years on aspects of the conservation of the house followed with his presentation on the proposed plans and what work has been completed to date. A very pleasant inclusion was the presence of Sgt Tim Bowe who had photographs from Sgt Power of Dovea and the protection post there in the 1950s.These he presented to the project.
Dovea Genetics would like to thank all of those who attended the evening as part of our short and long term projects to research the history of the Estate in all its aspects and to conserve Dovea House for the future. Your presence together with your active contributions and feedback was greatly appreciated and has gone towards making this event a great success.
We would like to extend a special thank you to our speakers of the night renowned historian George Cunningham and architect Brian Grubb for their valuable contribution to the evening and indeed for their enthusiasm, knowledge and commitment to embarking on this historical journey with Dovea.
Finally, to all of those who offered their time and resources in making the event possible we extend our gratitude.
