Healthy food was top of the menu at a family day in Cashel.

Co-ordinated by South Tipperary Development Company, the Healthy Foods for all the Family event was held in the  Spafield Family Resource Centre.

It was part of the roll out of the SafeFood Community Food Initiative, (CFI) across the County.

The objective  was to highlight and provide how healthy food can be made accessible, easy to prepare and at a low cost.

A practical demonstration on how to prepare safe and healthy food at the Spafield Family Resource Centre.

The core focus was to empower and enable those that attended to develop healthy eating patterns, food behaviours and broaden their understanding of various food groups and healthy food available to them locally.

On the day there were two food demonstrations and a number of professionals available to discuss and answer any questions/queries that arose in relation to their health and the health of their families.

In attendance was the South Tipperary Community Dietician, who spoke about the importance of food portions and sugar content in food.

The Dental Hygienist discussed how to prevent tooth decay and importance of good dental hygiene at an early age.

All participants thoroughly enjoyed the Event.  South Tipperary Development Company on behalf of Safefood Community Food Initiative would like to thank each and every one for participating on the dayand look forward to welcoming everyone back and the wider community to our next Event in 2017.

A quote from one participant: “I really enjoyed the event, the cooking demonstrations were the highlight, it was great to see how to actually prepare the food and then to taste it.  The menus are such a great resource to have at home and offer great variety and value for money”  - MK.

South Tipperary Development Company and the Community Food Initiative congratulate Helena Burns from Ballingarry who was the lucky winner of the prize hamper.
