Tipperary accident: pedestrian injured outside Nenagh in early morning incident

The Gardai in Nenagh are investigating a serious traffic accident that happened on the road between Newtown and Portroe in the early hours of the morning.

A man, who has been named as Noel McGrath, aged 43, sustained severe injuries to both of his legs when he was hit by the vehicle at Ballycarrido, Portroe.

Gardaí in Nenagh were alerted about the accident at 12.40am. When they arrived they discovered Mr McGrath, a single man, lying in the middle of the road.

An air ambulance was requested but was not available and Mr McGrath was transferred to University Hospital Limerick by road.

An 18-year-old man, who is also from the Portroe area and was the driver of the vehicle, remained at the scene after the accident and is helping Gardaí with their inquiries.

The road was closed while Garda forensics carried out a crash investigation.
