Cahir shocked by death of community stalwart in kayaking tragedy

The tragic death of a stalwart community figure in a kayaking tragedy on the River Suir on Saturday morning  has stunned the town  of Cahir.

Ted Linehan,who   died in the boating tragedy, was a valued volunteer in the Tidy Towns group, the local GAA club and with the Cahir Meet and Train Group.

He was an experienced kayaking enthusiast  and his sudden death has caused profound sadness in the town.

While kayaking on Saturday morning at Garnavilla,Cahir he got into difficulties.

 

He was taken from the river by the local river resuce but died a short time later.

Gardaí attended the scene of an incident.

His body has been removed to University Hospital Waterford for a post-mortem examination.

Ted,of Cahir and Mourneabbey,County Cork, is survived by his  wife Mary, son Fergus, daughters Edel and Emily, sister Anne (Caplice), brothers Jerome and Donal, mother-in-law, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and his many friends.

 

Reposing at Costigan’s Funeral Home Cahir on Tuesday evening from 5pm to 8pm. Remains will arrive at St. Michael’s Church, Annalentha, Mourneabbey, for 2pm funeral Mass on Wednesday, burial afterwards in Burnfort Cemetery. Family flowers only please, donations if desired to Cahir River Rescue / Cahir Tidy Towns.
