Methodist Church Hall hosts Christian Aid coffee morning & sale in Roscrea

There was a great buzz and plenty of conversation and laughter in the Methodist Church Hall, Roscrea, on Saturday, November 25th.

This was the occasion of the pre-Christmas fundraiser for the development agency, Christian Aid.

Christian Aid is the equivalent of Trócaire for the Protestant churches and the agencies share a vision of a world where all have equal opportunities, food and health.

They share too a concern for the well-being of the earth, so eloquently outlined in Pope Francis’ encyclical, Laudato Si.

There was a big crowd of supporters who arrived to drink coffee, eat freshly-baked scones and to rummage through the items on the Bric a Brac and book stall. A number of children were clearly enjoying themselves with toys and pieces of costume jewellery from boxes on the floor! Christmas cards in support of several development agencies also disappeared like snow off the proverbial ditch.

At the end of the morning, a figure of over €1,000 had been raised, those attending had had an enjoyable morning and there was the quiet satisfaction of knowing that a successful effort had been made to help an agency which helps the poor to help themselves, lobbies for justice and peace and is present where people most need assistance.
