Carrick-on-Suir students plant crocuses in memory of Jewish children murdered in the Holocaust

Students from Carrick-on-Suir Scoil Mhuire Secondary School have planted a bed of crocuses to commemorate the 1.5m Jewish children who perished in the Holocaust during World War 11. 

The school is participating for the first time in the Holocaust Education Trust Ireland’s Crocus Project, an initiative providing yellow crocus bulbs for students to plant as a memorial to the Jewish children murdered by the Nazis. 

The yellow flowers recall the yellow Stars of David that Jewish people were forced to wear under Nazi rule. The crocus blooms around the end of January around the time of international Holocaust Memorial Day on  January 27.

Scoil Mhuire's Transition Year students will organise  their own memorial service at that time.
