Tipperary icy roads alert - motorists should be careful on the roads today

Be careful on the roads today.

While Tipperary appears to have escaped the worst of the snow and ice over the past twenty four hours, very low temperatures overnight will make conditions hazardous for motorists.

The advice is to drive carefully and look out for hidden icy patches.

With temperatures still hovering around freezing, it will be sometime yet before a thaw sets in.

And the worst isn't over with temperatures set to drop before freezing again tonight.

Met Eireann say it will remain very cold today, but many areas dry with sunny spells. Scattered wintry showers mainly across the north and west. The showers mainly of rain or sleet.

After a bitterly cold start, frost and ice may linger in some inland areas. Temperatures will recover to range 2 to 5 degrees. Moderate to fresh northwest winds.

Isolated wintry showers in the northwest will die out and tonight will be dry and clear with widespread severe frost returning.

Temperatures falling to range +1 and -4 degrees.

A number of sporting events were wiped out across Tipperary on Sunday with only one soccer game in South Tipperary surviving the cold snap.
