Tipperary Co. Council has agreed to examine a councillor's proposal to provide a memorial wall to store urns holding cremated remains in Carrick-on-Suir's St Mary's Cemetery.
Carrick-on-Suir SF Cllr David Dunne put forward the proposal at Carrick-on-Suir Municipal District's monthly meeting.
He explained that boxes to store urns would be inset in the wall and accessed by a key.
He said it was a project the Council should investigate as space was running out at the town's cemetery on the Dungarvan Road. This wall may be a way of freeing up more space, he suggested.
Cllr Dunne said there were a lot of people interested in placing their loved ones ashes somewhere safe and pointed out that there was a memorial wall in a cemetery at Ballybeg in Waterford City.
Carrick Municipal District Engineer Willie Corby said the town cemetery in Nenagh was relatively new and had a memorial wall.
He agreed to look into Cllr Dunne's proposal.
