Sadness in Tipperary at death of former Journalist Ken Johnston

The death has occurred in Nenagh hospital of former journalist Ken Johnston.

Originally from New Zealand, Ken came to Ireland in the 1970s and worked as a sub-editor in the Irish Press for a number of years before joining the Irish Times.

He retired from the Irish Times nine years ago where he held the position of deputy chief sub-editor.
Following his retirement Ken and his wife Margaret, nee Collins, moved back to her home town of Nenagh and set up home on Limerick Road. Margaret, a hairdresser, was originally from Carrigatoher.

However while both looked forward to a long and happy retirement she was unfortunately struck by illness while holidaying in Italy shortly after they moved home and passed away recently. Ken became her full time carer until shortly before she died.
Ken was an avid rugby fan and was also a member of the book club in Nenagh library.

He was also pre-deceased by his parents George & Isabelle. He is deeply regretted by his loving sisters Eleanor (Heenan) & Katherine (Anderson) & brother Peter, nephews, nieces, relatives, great Nenagh neighbours & colleagues in the Irish Times & Irish Press.

Reposing at Keller’s Funeral Home, Nenagh on Saturday evening from 5’oc to 6’oc funeral arriving to St. Mary’s of the Rosary Church, Nenagh on Sunday morning at 12 noon for Funeral Mass at 12.15 p.m. followed by burial in Lisboney Cemetery.
