Zero Waste Cashel celebrates 'Earth Day' Festival and a Day of Action

Day of Action volunteers for Sick of Plastic campaign, Kate Fahey, Sr. Mary Walsh, Josephine Quinn and Derry O'Donnell

It was a busy weekend in Cashel for the Zero Waste Cashel project.

Saturday saw a nationwide campaign urging shoppers to leave behind excess plastic packaging in supermarkets. Most of the main supermarkets had containers put out for shoppers to leave behind any plastic packaging they did not need.

Volunteers with Zero Waste Cashel spent the day in SuperValu, who have always been very supportive of the project, and engaged with customers entering and leaving the supermarket.

The Cashel Zero Waste Festival took place on Sunday, which was Earth Day, in Halla Na Feile. Visitors travelled from Limerick, Kilkenny, Dublin and as far away as Clonakilty, Co. Cork to experience zero waste plastic free shopping and take part in some of the many workshops that were held from DIY cleaning products to bath bombs for kids. Chef Frank Moynihan showed attendees how to make nettle soup, spelt bread and sugar free fruit cake.

There was lots of positive feedback from attendees to this new, first time event to take place in Cashel with lots of enquiries as to when the next one would be. To ensure you don't miss the next one you can subscribe to the newsletter on www.zerowastecashel.ie
