Two men arrested in connection with seizure of drugs, ammunition and suspected firearm in Clonmel

Gardai are preparing a file for submission to the Director of Public Prosecutions following the release from custody of two men arrested in connection with the seizure of drugs, ammunition and a suspected firearm in a series of searches carried out in Clonmel last week.

The two men were arrested last Wednesday afternoon, June 13 after gardai carried out searches of a number of properties in Clonmel including a halting site on the Heywood Road.

They were detained for questioning at Cahir Garda Station and later released without charge. A Clonmel Garda Station spokeperson said a file on the case is now being prepared for submission to the DPP.

The spokesman declined to outline the type and quantity of drugs and ammunition seized in the searches.

He said the operation was part of an investigation into ongoing criminal activity including the sale and supply of drugs in the Clonmel area.

The searches were conducted by local gardai supported by the armed Garda Regional Support Unit, the Divisional Garda Drugs Unit, Garda Dog Unit, Divisional Detective Branch, Custom officers with support from 25 probationary gardai from the Garda College in Templemore.
