Film about heroic Carrick-on-Suir missionary nun to be screened in Brewery Lane Theatre

A documentary film about a 91 year-old Carrick-on-Suir nun, who has dedicated her life to educating children in India, will be screened at Brewery Lane Theatre next Tuesday, September 25 at 7pm. 

"Sister India" recounts the story of Sr. Loreto (Peg) Houlihan, who left her rural home in Tinhalla, near Carrick-on-Suir in 1943 to become a Presentation Sister in the UK before departing for the distant shores of India. 

Her ship set sail from Liverpool to Bombay as the Second World War was drawing to a close. Sr. Loreta celebrated her 17th birthday on board. 

She dedicated her life to love and serve others through education in Chennai, India. Sr. Loreto is one of the last Irish Presentation nuns remaining out of 131 who travelled to India and worked there. The documentary about Sr Loreta's life was filmed by Irish filmmaker Myles O'Reilly and produced by Aine Edwards around the time of her Jubilee celebrating 70s years of sisterhood. . Brewery Lane will show this documentary on Tuesday 25th September at 7pm. 

Aine Edwards will attend the screening of the film. All are welcome. Admission costs €7 and there will be refreshments afterwards.
