The wall at the Quaker cemetery in Clonmel, shortly after its collapse
The collapsed wall of the Quaker cemetery in O'Neill Street in Clonmel would cost up to €90,000 to repair, members of Clonmel Borough District Council have been told.
Cllr.Pat English asked officials to give an indication of when the collapsed wall would be repaired, at the September meeting of the council.
He asked if the council had insurance to cover the damage to the wall.
Sean Keating, council Director of Services, told the meeting that the wall had been assessed and that there was a concern that the wall was higher than it should be without the use of strengthening piers.
Partial rebuilding of the wall was looked at but the council was informed that that would not be appropriate.
He told the members that the cost of the full job would be €90,000 and the council did not have the money to carry out the works.
He would have to check if there was insurance cover for damage to the wall.
The wall collapsed some months ago.
The Society of Friends (Quakers) graveyard was opened in 1709. Many very prominent Clonmel Anglo-Irish families are buried there.
