Co. Tipperary camera club marks 10th anniversary with trip to Bulgaria

While Ireland was being battered by storms and high rainfall, a group of Carrick-on-Suir Camera Club members were enjoying a ‘second’ summer in the Bulgarian capital Sofia.
The photography enthusiasts were greeted by temperatures in the high 20s when they arrived in Sofia for their four-day trip, which is part of the Camera Club's 10th birthday celebrations.
The trip was both an opportunity to take photographs and a great social occasion for members.
A walking tour around the city gave plenty of opportunities for excellent photographs. The Camera Club group saw the magnificent eastern Orthodox Saint Alexander Nevski Cathedral – one of the largest in the world.
They also visited the 11th century Boyana Church, Saint Nikolas Russian Church, the 6th century Saint Sofia Church, the National Institute of Archaeology and the Ivan Vazov National Theatre.
The main street – the Vitosha Boulevard – is a pedestrianised fashion mall with lots of great eating houses. The straight-kneed, high-stepping guards changed every hour at the Palace
A day trip to Bulgaria’s second city Plovdiv brought the amateur photographers through woodland areas on the way. The cobbled streets of the old town on the hill are very narrow and quaint and there are craft shops everywhere.
A climb to the top of the old town, the Nebettepe, gave the Carrick-on-Suir visitors spectacular views of Plovdiv.
