A student at Carrick-on-Suir's Scoil Mhuire Secondary School is participating in the National Junior Science Olympiad this Saturday after achieving high scores in maths and science in this year's Junior Cert exams.
Niamh McKnight was invited to take part in the Olympiad by the State Exams Commission.
The Olympiad's competitions are taking place in Dublin City University during the months of October and November.
The top six students will be selected to represent Ireland at the International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) in Gaborone, Botswana from December 2 to 11 and the European Union Science Olympiad (EUSO) in Almada, Portugal next May.
Scoil Mhuire PRO Mary Greene said it was a major honour to be invited to take part in the National Junior Science Olympiad as only students identified by the SEC may participate in the competition.
She said the school wishes Niamh the best of luck in the upcoming competitions.
